Miguel Sá Pessoa, was born and raised in Lisbon, Portugal, surrounded by a family of classical musicians. He studied at The Lisbon Conservatory as a classical piano student, but his musical interests soon shifted to Jazz. He was granted a full scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude in Jazz Composition and Music Production.
After College, Miguel landed a job at Mission Control Studios in Boston and ended up staying in the U.S. for many years after that. He worked with a wide variety of artists as both a performing and recording musician and as an arranger and music producer. Equally gifted in both the Jazz and Pop music genres, Miguel has worked with a client list that includes: New Kids On The Block; Jordan Knight; Mark and Donnie Wahlberg; Tommy Page; Mai Kuraki (Japan); Lyle Mays (Pat Metheny Group); Milton Nascimento; Sérgio Mendes; Chayanne; Nando Lauria and many others. His work has been awarded several gold albums in the U.S. and Japan.
Miguel’s credits as a composer, music producer and pianist/keyboardist include works for Disney (film), Sony Music, Interscope Records (Universal), Warner Brothers, Island Records and many more. He is also active in the international scene, as a writer/producer for Mai Kuraki, Garnet Crow and Yumi Shizukusa, three of Japan’s leading Pop acts.
While retaining the soul and spirit of a jazz musician, Miguel has also successfully incorporated the worlds of computers and electronic music into his compositions and productions. His masterful knowledge of the old school analog studio environment, gave him an edge in the world of digital recording that have kept him in demand as a music producer, arranger, pianist/keyboardist and recording engineer.
